Do New Year’s Resolutions Actually Work?
Every January, most people are feeling motivated and ready to start working towards their health and fitness goals (or restart) after the holidays…
By February, consistency starts to drop, motivation fades, the “why” behind the goal gets blurry, and old habits start creeping back in. Sometimes all at once, sometimes gradually…
By March, many feel like they’re back at square one, trying to find motivation and start again.
To be fair, this is very common, and this usually isn’t a discipline problem. And it’s not always a motivation problem either. Most fitness resolutions are built around ideas like “I need to get in shape” or “I need to work out every day.” They sound good, but they rarely hold up once life happens.
Schedules get busy and new stressors commonly pop up. Then one missed workout or a couple days off starts to feel like failure. Nothing is actually ruined in that moment, but confidence often takes the hit. That discouragement is what causes the downward spiral, and that’s when people stop prioritizing workouts instead of easing their way back on track.
Resolutions can work, but only when the action steps attached to them are small, simple, and sustainable. That might mean showing up once a week if you’ve never worked out before, or three times a week if you’ve already built up the habit. Progress comes from consistency, not perfection.
And big promises are hard to keep… Simple systems are not. The people who succeed aren’t necessarily more disciplined. They just make the steps toward their goal easier to take.
Sometimes the hardest part is knowing what those steps should look like for you, and that’s where having a coach matters.
If you want this year to feel different, don’t go bigger… Go simple, small, and sustainable.
But if you need someone to tell you exactly what you need to do to make your goals happen, a great first step is just having a conversation.
If that speaks to you, book time to speak with a coach. You can do that here: Book a No Sweat Intro
Let’s work together to make 2026 your best year yet. 💪
